Plane Arboriculture Limited was founded in 2015 by Thomas Gregory, a professionally qualified tree expert with over 15 years’ experience working with trees in both urban and rural environments.

Among numerous practical qualifications, Thomas holds a Btec National Diploma in Arboriculture and has successfully completed the LANTRA training and assessment in Professional Tree Inspection. He is a Technician Member of the Arboricultural Association (Member no. TE04004), a Professional Member of the Consulting Arborist Society and a Registered User of Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (User no. 1304). He is also a Full Member of the Federation of Small Businesses.

After completing his training as Sparsholt College, Hampshire, in 2005, Thomas volunteered at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and Arboretum where he gained valuable experience working on a vast array of different tree species. That, combined with his time spent as a tree surgeon, gave him a good grounding to move onto tree management.

In 2005, Thomas moved to work in Local Government. He started in Exeter, Devon, where he began carrying out tree surveys and detailed tree inspections for Exeter City Council. In 2007, he moved to Weston-super-Mare, Somerset where he took on the day-to-day management of tree maintenance contracts and a number of big tree planting projects for North Somerset Council.

In 2009 he moved back to Winchester, Hampshire and worked for Winchester City Council, where he carried out their tree related duties under the Town and Country Planning Act. This included everything to do with Tree Preservation Orders, trees in Conservation Areas and providing advice to Planning Officers where trees were affected by development proposals.

Since founding Plane Arboriculture Limited, we have secured a contract with Hampshire County Council in which Thomas provides technical resource and advice to the Roads and Transport Department on all tree related matters from proactive surveys to advising on Section 38 and 278 agreements. Using Thomas’s extensive knowledge and experience in Local Government, he has also been brought in to provide technical resource and advice to other local authorities on an ad hoc basis, including Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

Now, as a professional arboriculturalist in Winchester and Exeter, Thomas is here to help you on all tree queries. Just contact us and tell us what you need!
